Detox Placement in Washington State

Detox is the process of purging the body of any substances that a person has consumed to the point of addiction. The method of detox allows time for the drug and alcohol to be eliminated from the body so the person can move forward with treatment. Free by the Sea offers detox placement to the men and women in the State of Washington who are living with drug and alcohol addiction.

We are serving the Nation, based in the Pacific Northwest.

Why Detox?

With drug and alcohol abuse disorders on the rise, drug detox centers and therapy centers are essential. There are approximately 2 ½ million visits to the emergency room for drug-related issues.

Drugs or alcohol are safely purged from the body in a detox center, alleviating withdrawal symptoms. A detox center is a place where the symptoms of withdrawal are controlled and managed carefully.

Can Detox Alone Cure Addiction?

Detoxing by itself is definitely not enough to curb the addiction habit. Quitting some drugs by yourself can be dangerous or even deadly. In those instances, it is better to seek a facility that specializes in detoxing.

A detox facility with a medical staff that supervises their patients can prevent complications during detox. In some facilities, medications are given to lessen the withdrawal symptoms.

Detox Medications Include:

  • Benzodiazepines are medicines that help with substance withdrawal symptoms. This type of medication has a sedative effect and helps curb anxiety. Benzodiazepines are often prescribed to users who are addicted to opiates and alcohol.
  • Antidepressants are also medicines to help with withdrawal symptoms. Drugs and alcohol cause a malfunction in the chemicals in the brain. Individuals going through detox may feel depressed. Medications like antidepressants often help with these symptoms.
  • Clonidine is a medication that is usually given to patients for withdrawals from opiates and alcohol. This medication is helpful for clients who are having seizures and tremors. Clonidine also helps alleviate cramps and muscle aches.
  • Naltrexone is another medication to help with alcohol detox and can actually stop the urge to drink.
  • Acamprosate is a medication used for detoxing alcohol from the body. This medication can help with the physical and emotional effects that are associated with abusing alcohol. The first medication approved for alcohol abuse disorder was Disulfiram. If the patient drinks while taking Disulfiram, the patient will get sick.
  • Methadone is a drug prescribed to patients that have an opiate or opioid addiction. A little over twenty percent of the people who are prescribed Methadone help with addiction to opiates continue to use Methadone for life.

Length of Detox

The length of detox can differ from person to person. Some people may start to feel the effects of withdrawal symptoms within a couple of hours after stopping the drug or having a drink. These effects can subside within a few days.

Some of these symptoms can last several weeks or even months.

The determining factors of the length of withdrawal symptoms are as follows:

  • If the substance is alcohol or a drug
  • What type of drug the person is addicted to
  • How severe is alcohol or drug addiction
  • How the drug was used
  • History of the individual’s family in association with drugs
  • How much of the substance was taken
  • Drug allergies
  • Age of the patient
  • Gender of the patient
  • The person’s genetic makeup
  • Does the person have any medical conditions
  • Does the person have any mental health disorders

Depending on the drug, not everyone who seeks drug addiction treatment must be admitted to a detox facility prior to receiving treatment at Free by the Sea. For medical reasons, however, some clients will be required to undergo detox prior to entering our drug addiction treatment program.

We have excellent relationships with detox facilities in the Pacific Northwest and we will assist you with detox placement.

Free by the Sea offers placement services for the following:

Side Effects While Detoxing

Some of these withdrawal symptoms are:

  • Anxiety
  • The inability to sleep
  • Abdominal issues
  • Aches and pains of the body
  • Unstable moods
  • The inability to concentrate
  • Strokes
  • Seizures
  • Tremors

Substances that Require Medical Supervision

A severe addiction to certain substances requires that the detox process be monitored by a medical professional. The withdrawal symptoms can be very dangerous, even life-threatening, if the individual is not supervised.

Some of these drugs are as follows:

  • Alcohol
  • Opioids and Opiates
  • Benzodiazepines and other anti-anxiety drugs
  • Stimulants which quickly stimulates brain activity and stimulate adrenaline
  • Bath salts and other synthetic drugs
  • Adderall
  • Ritalin
  • Any drug that contains THC

The Steps of Detox

  • The evaluation process is the first step in the detoxing protocol.
  • To stabilize the patient is the next step in the detoxing protocol.
  • To prepare the patient for additional treatment and therapy is the last step in the detoxing protocol.

There are different steps in the detoxing protocol. These steps are pretty much universal.

Detox While Pregnant

Detoxing while pregnant is especially dangerous. Drinking or using drugs while pregnant harms the unborn baby. If a woman is pregnant and she is abusing drugs and/or alcohol, a detox center or a hospital is where she can get medical care while detoxing.

Being medically monitored is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. Medical staff that specializes in detoxing can keep both the mothers and the babies safe during the detox process.

What is Rapid and Ultra-Rapid Detox?

In some instances, patients want to do rapid detox using extreme methods to make the process faster. This is a process where the individual is sedated and given other medications to replace the substances that the individuals are addicted to. Detox can be as little as a few hours for ultra-rapid detox. Detox can last a few days for regular rapid detox. However, rapid detox can be dangerous. Approximately 1 in 500 die in the ultra-rapid detox process.

Rapid detox can cause the following:

  • Cardiovascular problems including heart attacks
  • Depression and paranoia
  • Increase in the individual’s body temperature
  • Lung and airway issues
  • Increase in infections
  • Abdominal issues
  • Choking
  • In some instances, it can cause death

What Comes After Detox?

Detox is only the first step in your journey to sobriety. After detox, a therapy program must be designed for the individual. The patient should discuss the next course of action with an addiction professional. This will help ensure a patient’s success in their journey towards sobriety.

Different types of addiction therapies include:

  • Partial hospitalization is where the patient is in the rehab center during most of the day but still resides in their home.
  • Outpatient addiction treatment therapy is for patients who are less severely addicted. This is an excellent option for people who work. The patients can go to therapy either before or after work. If you or a loved is in need of an outpatient therapy program, contact us at Free by the Sea.
