Addiction Treatment Programs in Washington State

Substance addiction in Washington has plagued the state and continued to rapidly increase within its borders each year since the 1990s. At Free by the Sea, we recognized the severity of the situation that is happening and hope to help our current and future patients regain control of their lives again. Our staff is devoted to our patient’s needs, and we understand how serious a substance abuse addiction in Washington is.

We believe that if you take action as soon as you possibly can to start treatment for your addiction, you will have a better chance of a full recovery. In order to assure the best chance for a full recovery to each person we treat, we understand that not everyone’s path will look the same.

Because of this, we have developed many different programs within our facilities. In this informational post, we will cover the many different types of treatment available to aid in the recovery of a substance abuse addiction in Washington.

Residential Treatment for Addiction

Our residential treatment is designed to house current and potential patients who face severe addictions in Washington. The types of cases that will be admitted into residential treatment will be those where the individual affected is not able to lead a “normal life” at home while completing their treatments.

A lot of the time, residential patients have also been dual-diagnosed with mental disorders and substance addictions at the same time, and they may also be facing addictions to multiple substances. This type of program ensures 24 hours a day, 7 days week care in order to help those enrolled have the best chance at a full recovery.

Outpatient Care

Our outpatient care program is designed for individuals living off-campus who are working and going to school in the local community but seek to maintain sobriety through therapy and support. These are cases of mild addiction that can be monitored on a weekly basis. Our therapists and specialists will meet with patients a few times a week to make sure they are staying on the right track with their recovery.

Many of our outpatient programs focus on individual and group therapy sessions. These sessions include psychological evaluations and allow former and current addicts to share stories and thoughts about what they’ve been through. By building connections with therapists and people going through similar situations, we believe this helps our outpatient attendees understand why they became a victim of addiction and how they can continue to recover.

Intensive Outpatient Program

The difference between our regular outpatient and intensive outpatient programs is the intensity of the treatment. Our intensive outpatient program is the middle ground patients will be admitted into if we believe that their addictive habits still need work.

This program will allow patients to be reintroduced into societal roles and live amongst others who have gone through similar addiction situations. Once they complete this program, they will then graduate to our regular outpatient program for maintenance of their recovery. This gives them a lower chance of relapsing into old patterns.

Family Education and Support Programs

When a family member or friend is affected by addiction, those around them also feel the effects. The addicted individual may lash out and damage relationships with the people they’re closest to. In order to repair those bonds, we offer an intensive four-day family program focused on helping this vital support unit establish a foundation for successful recovery — not only for the client but for the entire family.

We believe family therapy is essential to the full recovery of our patients at Free by the Sea. It is understandable why ties to addicted individuals can be severed before going into therapy because of actions that have happened and words that have been exchanged.

By teaching family members and close friends why their loved one became addicted to the substance in the first place, we hope to change mindsets as well as repair those once lost relationships. This is so important because we have determined that by having a solid support system throughout their recovery, patients are more determined to complete treatment. They are also less likely to relapse once their time in rehab is over.

Partial Hospitalization Program

Free by the Sea’s partial hospitalization program allows patients to recover from the substance abuse addiction at home while visiting a treatment center during the week. This helps cut down the cost of the treatment and still allows them to receive the same type of care they would if they were admitted into one of our facilities.

Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

More often than not, an individual facing substance abuse in Washington is also facing a mental disorder, as well. When this happens, our staff at Free by the Sea will evaluate the needs of each patient accordingly. If both disorders are found to coexist, we will recommend being admitted into our dual diagnosis program. In this program, both substance addiction and mental disorder will be treated together to ensure the quickest, most effective recovery.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment or MAT is put into place when a patient at Free by the Sea is facing an intense form of addiction, especially when an individual has become addicted to opioids. Naltrexone and suboxone are the two main types of medication used to ween opioid addicts away from their substance cravings during detox.

Without this type of treatment suppressing the need to use, it would take a longer period of time for patients to complete their detox. Once detoxification has been completed, MAT treatment may continue to be used throughout the entirety of the process, depending on how severe the case is.

12-step Meetings

12-step meetings can be for all types of addictions. Our programs cover the 12 steps that have been proven necessary in order to change the mindset of an addicted individual. These programs are necessarily meant to be religious, but they are meant to be spiritual. In this type of therapy, we encourage our patients to look to a higher power. Whatever type that may be for them, this ultimately helps them create stability within their mindset again. It gives them something to lean on when recovery becomes difficult. We give them the chance to experience this in groups of other patients within the facility to gain perspective and other viewpoints, as well.

Relapse Prevention Therapy

When one of our patients completes the recovery process, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will continue their sobriety after they’ve left our facilities. In more cases than not, relapsing, or becoming addicted to a substance once again, can occur.

Relapse prevention therapies are those that focus on giving the addicted individual the best chance at a full recovery. These types of therapies can include individual, group, recreational, etc. to get to the core of what has caused the initial addiction and gives patients other activities to replace their addictions with. Through these therapies, our goal is to reteach our patients that their lives do not revolve around the substances they were once addicted to.

Individual Therapy

Once detoxification of the substance is complete, patients will be evaluated by our therapists. This type of therapy is called individual therapy, and it is used to determine what caused an individual’s addiction in the first place. There are many factors that can contribute to substance addiction in Washington. Some of these can include:

  • History of abuse
  • Genetics
  • Environmental settings
  • Coexisting disorders

By determining which of these factors helped influence the addiction, our therapists can have a better idea of what other types of therapy our patients need in order to recover fully. This, in turn, will allow patients to have a lower chance of relapsing once treatments and therapies have been completed.

Gambling Addiction Rehab

Gambling is often thought of as a recreational activity, rather than an addiction. Yet, despite the seemingly harmless nature, gambling addiction can occur no matter what kind of bet you’re making, whether it’s a small bet on cards, a sports game, or slot machines. Gambling addictions not only cause financial burdens, but it can also cause strain in the relationships with those around you.

Often times, substance abuse addictions go hand in hand with gambling addictions. Because of this, we take gambling addictions very seriously. At Free by the Sea, our gambling addiction therapies are designed just like our substance addiction therapies. We focus on getting to the root of the issue at hand with psychological evaluations. By treating both within the same time frame, we know we can reduce the amount of time spent within our facilities.

Exercise Therapy

Exercising and being active releases endorphins into the brain, which are the chemicals that trigger neurotransmitters that send out “happiness signals.” The reason exercise therapies are used in treating substance abuse disorders is that they can significantly improve addicts’ moods and mindsets while going through treatment.

Not only are they essential for the psychological improvement of our patients at Free by the Sea, but they are also important for developing healthier lifestyles in general. By giving our patients other outlets to focus their attention on besides the substance they were once dependent on, it allows them to form hobbies they will carry outside of our facilities. We even have volleyball courts, basketball areas, and a full weight room that our patients can use under the supervision of our staff at any time.

The Importance of Diverse Treatments

Addiction looks different for every person who faces it. Because of this, our staff at Free by the Sea knows that each patient’s path to recovery will not be the same. We understand that recovery means focusing on the mental, physical and emotional aspects of each case of addiction we come in contact with, and we have discovered that diversifying our treatments allows patients to recover more fully and efficiently in all areas.

Through the development of all of our treatments, we have found that applying multiple at the same time is also of importance. Our staff will evaluate each case to determine which ones will have the most lasting effect.
